In this episode of Inside the Brands, CRP Automotive Brand Manager Paul Swyter talks about three new accessory drive kits for popular BMW models.
Filling an existing gap in the dealer alternative market, these kits include an OE-quality ContiTech serpentine belt as well as the required tensioner and idler pulleys — all from OEMs.
CRP PART NUMBERS:
These new kits fit 2007 through 2013 BMW 1, 3, 5, and X1 Series vehicles with turbocharged gas engines — in total, they cover about 224,420 vehicles in operation.
On these engines, the harmonic balancer sits in front of the belt, so if any of the components fail or the belt slips off an idler or tensioner, it can get drawn into the engine causing catastrophic failure. This is why we recommend that all of the accessory drive components are also replaced when changing the belt.
Age-wise, the vehicles covered by these kits should be either at or close to requiring a belt change service. So the next time one of these models comes in, be sure to carefully inspect the belt for signs that it needs to be replaced. And remember, every one of these kits comes with a 2 year/24,000 warranty.
